A Tribute to Joyce Bascombe

Gloucester High School and Gloucester County Public Schools as a whole lost an amazing teacher, friend and colleague this week.  Joyce Bascombe passed Monday, January 21, 2013.  Joyce was the teacher that all students loved and colleagues admired and strived to be like.  GHS Spanish teacher Donna Freeman shared some words about this vibrant and wonderful woman that we will share here:

The words of those who knew and loved Joyce Bascombe buoy my spirit. A student asked, "Did she teach keyboarding?" Hmm...Keyboarding? She taught love, discipline, compassion, the value of a job well done, faith. All through example. I feel blessed to have been touched by her spirit, to have stood in the warmth of her presence. The passing of Joyce has hit me especially hard because I loved her so well. Like an ancient tree, she spread her branches and gave many shade and respite. How many students did we share in common over the years? How many asked for a pass to seek her counsel? She nurtured those whom she taught. She nurtured those with whom she taught. I am so pleased to hear read the testimonials of her former students. She will live forever in their hearts, as she will live in the hearts of her colleagues. RIP, Joyce Bascombe.

Joyce will be dearly missed and GHS will never be the same.  She had a wonderful spirit and always had a smile on her face.  Rest In Peace, Joyce.
