GHS teacher's show their support for public education

What has GEA done for you?

Notable GEA Accomplishments 2011-2012. We are ALL responsible for these accomplishments:

· 7.725% increase covering all of the 5% VRS mandate plus an additional 2% COLA. No other division in District received a COLA this year.

· GEA effectively lobbied for no layoffs.

· GEA and Past President Carolyn Molly were the 2012 recipients of the VEA Activism Award given at the VEA Convention.

· With the help of the fundraising efforts by the Demuth family, GEA was able to award three GEA Sally Demuth Memorial Scholarship awards.

· GEA helped to lobby against the end of continuing contracts and decreased state funding.

· GEA had huge participation in Black Thursday—2/17/2012 and appeared on TV.

Proposed GEA goals for the coming year:

· Improved professional treatment.

· 3% COLA for 2013-2014.

· Emphasize and strategize outreach to ESP’s.

· Increase net membership by 30.

· Increase to 180 day school year.

· Forever end the drive to eliminate continuing contracts.

· Convince local legislators to fulfill their constitutional obligation to appropriately support public education.

· Further the positive relationships with administration and members of the school board and board of supervisors.

· Assist the Demuth family with fundraising efforts for the scholarship program.

· Research pros/cons of statewide cooperative health care plan in which all 132 school division could participate but with an “opt out” option.

· Improve the image of GEA as a professional organization which has active members of both major parties as well as independents;

· Should educate members, non- members, and the general public that GEA is an organization which strongly promotes the ideals of public education in the political arena, but does not promote any particular partisan agenda.
