The Gloucester community was deeply
grieved to hear of the passing of long-time Gloucester County School Board
member Jean Pugh. Dr. Pugh served
with distinction on the School Board for more than two decades.
Dr. Pugh dedicated her life to education
as a teacher, professor, leader and volunteer. She touched the lives of thousands of students, families,
citizens, teachers and staff in our community and surrounding area and remained
dedicated to her work until the very end of her long and gracious life. Dr. Pugh took politics out of politics
and spoke her mind and spoke from her heart.
Dr. Pugh should be added to the list of
“Outstanding Citizens of Gloucester” which is highlighted on the Gloucester
County website. She truly deserves
to join the ranks of Thomas Calhoun Walker and Walter Reed as one who has
profoundly affected the history of Gloucester County, Virginia, and whose work
will benefit us for decades to come.
Everyone who knew Dr. Pugh will always
recall her well-known commendation:
“We’re glad you work for us.”
We should respond: “In
reality, it was you who served us for much of your life. Thank you and we’re glad you did so much for us.”
Respectfully submitted by
